Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program. Verizon Network Security is looking for a talented and motivated Software Engineer with a good understanding of software development, automation, big data, machine learning, and related technologies. The Network Security Services infrastructure consists of several large scale networking, compute, and storage clusters that are used to analyze petabyte scale network and security event data sets for anomalous and malicious network activity to protect Verizon and its customers. Successful candidates will have responsibility for a number of the following areas based on the unique expertise that they bring to the project. Responsibilities include: Analyzing network traffic data to identify anomalous or malicious activity. Developing tools and systems to support the operation and security of Verizon networks. Identifying technology gaps to lead in the design, architecture, and implementation of appropriate solutions collaboratively. Evaluating technology and making recommendations to further the team’s mission of securing the network. Participating in capacity planning activities and identifying areas for improvements in managing resources and inventory. What we’re looking for... You’ll need to have: Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program. Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. Three or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience. Experience with networking (especially Internet related protocols), and network and information security. Experience developing in a variety of programming languages. Experience in statistics, data visualization, anomaly detection, and machine learning. Even better if you have one or more of the following: College degree with a STEM focus. Four or more years of hands-on experience working with internet-scale data sets such as Netflow, BGP, DNS, and IDS logs. Experience with big data analytical tools such as Splunk, Elasticsearch, or Hadoop. Experience with a variety of leading SQL and NoSQL technologies. Strong oral and written communication skills required for internal and external communication, at a range of technical and executive levels.
